‘I’m a political engineer,’ says Edo APC gov aspirant

The South-South Zonal Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Blessing Agbomhere, on Thursday, caused a stir when he wore a crash helmet to the national headquarters of the party in Abuja to procure the N50m Expression of Interest and Nomination form ahead of the Edo State governorship election.

The APC chieftain, who arrived at the party secretariat with drummers and scores of his supporters around 2.45 pm, told journalists that he remains the best aspirant to pick the party ticket.

Addressing a press conference after picking his forms, Agbohmere said the white helmet with the APC logo he wore was an indication that he is ready to re-engineer Edo State into a metropolitan city.

He said, “I know many of you will be wondering why I wore a helmet to the secretariat today. It symbolises the move to rescue and re-engineer Edo State which has started.

“You can see that I am even sweating as I stand here with you. People refer to me as political engineer. I’m a political engineer because I am prepared and ready to work for the people of Edo State.

“When a state is properly administered, the people, and by extension industries, will benefit.

“I want to build Edo Metropolitan City 1 and 2 because Edo City currently is congested. As a result, house rent are very expensive for our people. Edo State has no reason to suffer when it comes to road networks.

“My administration will focus on Edo Construction Company which will construct all the roads and provide services to other states, by so doing we can generate more income.”

The aspirant said he has a plan to make the state a tourism destination.

He promised to rescue the State and reset it for development.

More aspirants have continued to defy the resolution of the committee set up at the instance of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole and Prof Julius Ihonvbere, which earlier pruned the list of contestants to six.

The six cleared aspirants are Ernest Umakhihe (Owan East LGA), Clem Agba (Etsako East LGA), Lucky Imasuen (Ovia North East LGA, Dennis Idahosa (Ovia South West LGA), David Imuse (Esan West LGA) and Monday Okpebholo (Esan Central LGA).

But by Wednesday, former APC governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and other politicians such as Gideon Ikhine, Col. David Onabure, and Major General Charles Airhiavbere (retd.), had procured their governorship nomination forms.
