The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded arrangements to conduct re-run elections in Kunchi/Tsanyawa, Kura/Garun Malam and Rimin Gado/ Tofa House of Assembly constituencies.
The state resident electoral commissioner, Ambassador Abdu Zango, stated this at a consultative meeting with leaders of political parties at the Commission’s headquarters on Tuesday in Kano.
He explained that the election which is scheduled to hold on 3rd February 2024 would address gaps left by court orders, within the three local government councils in the state.
According to him, the commission fixed January 21 for the closing of the submission of the names of party agents of all the political parties to participate in the by-election.
“We are committed to conduct free, fair and credible by-election in line with the electoral act, we have no candidate.
The Commission will not hesitate to declare whoever emerged victorious as winner of the election.
“The Appeal Court had ordered for the re-run by election into the State House of Assembly in three local government councils, comprising Kunchi/Tsanyawa, Kura/Garun Malam and Rimin Gado /Tofa constituencies.
“The three constituencies have six local government councils with 12 polling units in Kunchi/Tsanyawa, 21 in Kura/Garun Malam, and 33 in Rimin Gado/Tofa where the election will be conducted” he stated.
The State INEC chairman pointed out that non-sensitive materials have already been delivered to the three local government areas, including the Bimodel Voter Authentication System (BVAS) which would be used for the accreditation of voters during the conduct of the by-election.
