Hajia Mrs Rafat Salami, a veteran journalist with the Voice of Nigeria, VON, is dead.

The vibrant broadcaster, unionist and activist died Thursday night after a brief illness.

Her remains would be buried according to Islamic rites immediately after the Juma’at service by 2pm this Friday.

LEADERSHIP reports that Hajia Salami was recently elected Treasurer of the Nigeria chapter of the International Press Institute (IPI), alongside other notable journalists.

Tributes were pouring in from colleagues, friends and associates, expressing shock and devastation over her demise. Salami is survived by 20-year-old autistic son, Ahmed Salami.
