Joke Silva, Gbemi Shasore, others attend Lagos Theatre Festival

The recently concluded Lagos Theatre Festival 2024 was a star-studded affair as it was attended by notable personalities, including Joke Silva, Olarotimi Fakunle, Lota Chukwu, Joshua Alabi, Francis Onwochei, Gbemi Shasore and Supo Shasore, who is also Chairman of the LTF board.

The event, which held last weekend, emphasised its dedication to fostering cultural exchange and bridging artistic landscapes between Nigerian talents and their global counterparts.

Those who performed at the event include an Irish storyteller, Niall De Burca; while the Ambassador of Ireland to Nigeria, Peter Ryan, reinforced his country’s commitment to further collaboration with the Lagos Theatre Festival.

The activities filled festival also included a rich array of drama productions curated by the artistic director, Lydia Idakula, including ‘Anatomy of a Woman’ by Nevana Productions, ‘Tuti’ by Kininso Koncepts Productions, and ‘Before I Let You Go’, by B/Rated. Apparently having fun, members of the audience could not contain their excitement, as they constantly expressed various emotions throughout the performances.


In addition to the stage productions, the incoming Director General of the National Theatre, Tola Akerele, exchanged ideas and knowledge among theatre enthusiasts, professionals, and emerging talents.

On her part, the executive director of the LTF, Bikiya Graham-Douglas, expressed excitement at the overwhelming response from the artistic community and other the general public, affirming the festival’s role as a beacon for the arts, fostering creativity, and promoting cultural dialogue.

The main sponsor of the event was Quramo Publishing, with partners such as Freedom Park, the Embassy of Ireland, Lagos State Government, Culture Ireland, and Friends of Ireland.
