Fenerbahce’s manager, Jose Mourinho, has reminded Pep Guardiola of the charges hanging on Manchester City after the Spanish tactician boasted about his number of Premier League titles.
Last weekend, after Manchester City suffered a 2-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield, Guardiola provocatively displayed six fingers to the Liverpool supporters, signaling the tally of Premier League titles he has amassed during his managerial career.
When queried about whether he might experience a similar fate to that of former Chelsea manager Mourinho—who famously called for “respect” after winning three English top-flight titles—Guardiola emphasized his record with an air of superiority.
He stated, “I hope not in my case. He won three; I won six, but we are the same in those situations,” implying a comparison between their respective successes.
Mourinho, however, has taken a firm stance in defense of his accomplishments, saying: “Guardiola said something to me yesterday. He won six trophies, and I won three, but I won fairly and cleanly. If I lose, I want to congratulate my opponent because he was better than me. I don’t want to win by dealing with 150 lawsuits.”
Mourinho’s response is likely a direct reference to the controversy surrounding Manchester City who are facing 115 charges regarding alleged breaches of the Premier League financial fair play regulations.
