Journalist institutes annual education excellence award



A broadcaster, Milliscent Nnwoka has instituted the annual Milliscent Nnwoka Prize for Educational Excellence and Conduct in her alma mater, Sanya Senior Grammar School, Lagos.

The annual award is to recognise outstanding students and teachers.

Nnwoka announced the annual award during the prize-giving ceremony of the school, which she sponsored to celebrate her 40th birthday.

Nnwoka, also on the occasion, donated 150 new plastic seats to the school assembly hall and presented cash awards to deserving students and teachers.


Speaking at the event, Milliscent Nnwoka emphasized the importance of giving back to education and inspiring the next generation.

“Education shaped my journey, and I believe in supporting those who will shape the future. This is just the beginning.

“This initiative marks the start of a long-term commitment to empowering students and fostering excellence in education,” she said.

Her husband, Daniel Nnwoka supported his wife’s gesture by giving extra cash gifts to students who excelled in multiple subjects.

The school principal, Mrs Florence Olodeoku and the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Educational District 4, Mr Olawale Osinaike expressed their gratitude for the gesture.

Osinaike promised to escalate to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the possibility of giving the school further educational support.
