JUST-IN: Court Strikes Out Defamation Suit Against Farotimi

The Federal High Court, sitting in Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday struck out the defamation charge brought against human rights lawyer, Mr Dele Farotimi.

Following a petition by luminary legal icon, Aare Afe Babalola, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, had late last year filed a suit against Farotimi over alleged cybercrime.

The IGP had filed a 12-count charge bordering on cybercrime against Farotimi based on an interview he granted about his published book titled: ‘Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System,’ where he allegedly defamed Babalola.

Recall that the court had on December 9, 2024 granted bail to the defendant and adjourned till Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

However, following a midnight meeting with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and some prominent traditional rulers in Ekiti on Sunday, Aare Babalola agreed to withdraw the defamation suit against Farotimi.
