JUST-IN: Supreme Court Dismisses Appeal Against Ebonyi Gov’s Election

The Supreme Court, on Friday, validated the election of Mr Francis Nwifuru as the duly elected governor of Ebonyi State.

According to the apex court, the appeal lacked merit and was accordingly dismissed.

Justice Tijjani Abubakar, who delivered the lead judgement, said the appellant failed to subtsantiate his claim of irregularities in the election.

Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chukwuma Odii, had dragged the governor elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before the apex court after the Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos had affirmed the election of the governor.

In a unanimous decision, the three-member panel of the Appeal Court led Justice Jummai Sankey, dismissed the appeal filed by Odii of the PDP.

The panel also resolved all the five issues raised against the appellant and dismissed the appeal for lacking in merit.
