The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Lawal Usman, has cautioned against reprisals while strongly condemning the killing of some travellers from the northern part of the country in Uromi, Edo State.
Senator Usman called on the federal government, the Edo State government and security agencies to conduct “a swift, thorough and transparent” investigation into the crime and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay.
Usman, in a statement condemned the murder of the travellers, describing the killing of the innocent persons as barbaric and senseless.
He urged the authorities to find those behind the killings and punish them appropriately.
The lawmaker also appealed to government at all levels as well as community leaders to prioritise dialogue, reconciliation and peace-building initiatives to de-escalate ethnic tensions and foster national cohesion.
