Kano State Senior Official Arrested for Alleged Palliative Diversion

The Kano State Police Command has officially confirmed the arrest of Tasiu Al’amin-Roba, a Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Cabinet Office, and Abdulkadir Muhammad on charges of diverting essential palliatives meant for the state’s residents.

Commissioner of Police, Hussaini Gumel, revealed in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday that the suspects were apprehended at a warehouse located in Sharada. The discovery of over 200 empty bags of rice at the scene raised immediate concerns.

According to Gumel, the individuals were allegedly engaged in the illicit act of repackaging rice and maize from the government stamped palliatives sack with the intention of selling them to individuals within the confines of the Sharada warehouse.

“We have since commenced intensive investigation to find out how many bags of maize or rice were repackaged and sold,” Commissioner Gumel said.

The commissioner assured the public that a thorough and discreet investigation is currently underway to determine the extent of the alleged diversion.
