Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has promised to complete all abandoned projects at the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil.
The governor made the promise when he paid an unscheduled visit to the University on Sunday.
He consequently directed the Commissioners for Works, Land and Higher Education to immediately commence the construction of the Senate building and completion of ongoing projects at the Wudil Campus.
This was contained in a statement by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations, Abdullahi Datti Abdullahi, on Monday.
According to the statement, other projects earmarked for the university include staff quarters and additional student hostels.
“The Visitor to the University lamented the non-existence of a befitting Senate building in the university despite being established about 25 years ago.
“Abandoned projects such as the old Faculty of Engineering, Information and Communication Centre and drainage are also going to be tackled soon,” the statement read.
The governor also visited both male and female student hostels, assuring of improved welfare, especially in the areas of water and electricity supply.
Yusuf also assured that special attention would be accorded to the institution to enable it to be among the best in Nigeria.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Musa Yakasai appreciated the state government’s intervention in the past year, urging for more government presence in the University.
The Vice-Chancellor led Governor Yusuf and his entourage on a tour of the land earmarked for campus expansion and construction of the Senate building, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering, Entrepreneurship Development Centre, students Hostels, Convocation Square and Wudil Commercial Secondary School.
The Governor was accompanied on the visit by the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Higher Education, Aminu Gwarzo; Commissioners; Special Advisers and other top government officials.
