Igwe James Agbogo, the traditional ruler of Nkalagu Obukpa community in Enugu State, has been released after spending four days in captivity following his abduction on December 21st.
The monarch, who was held in captivity for four days, regained his freedom on Christmas Day after negotiations with the kidnappers.
The Nation reported that the release was secured following the payment of N6 million as ransom and the delivery of items, including a bag of rice, a carton of wine, and other food ingredients, demanded by the abductors.
The Igwe, who was preparing for his coronation scheduled for December 28, was abducted from his palace. He was later taken to a hospital for medical attention following his release.
In a separate incident, the brutal murder of a traditional ruler in Enugu State, Mr. Patrick Ezugwu of Akutara in Adani Autonomous Community, Uzo Uwani Local Government Area, resulted in the arrest of eight suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, who visited the community, assured the populace of the commitment to arrest the culprits involved in the tragic incident.
He stated that the governor had directed a swift investigation to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice.
