Kora empowers tech talents

Kora, a pan-African payment company, has announced the graduation of 48 Nigerians from its tech talent incubation programme, “The Curve”

According to the firm in a release, the initiative is part of its corporate social responsibility.

It stated that it underscored the company’s commitment to nurturing and empowering young minds in the tech industry.

The tech company stated that, despite a competitive selection process, 48 students completed the incubation programme.

The firm said that the milestone highlighted its dedication to providing opportunities for skill development and growth to individuals across Nigeria.

It added that the six-month incubation programme signified its commitment to shaping the future of tech in Africa.

Kora assured that it strives to bridge the gap and create a more inclusive tech ecosystem by actively engaging with aspiring engineering and tech enthusiasts, particularly from remote areas like Ajegunle.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the Marketing Manager at Kora, Gbenga Onalaja, said it recognised the immense talent and potential that the youth possess.

He stated, “Our tech talent incubation program reflects our dedication to providing opportunities for skill development and empowering young minds to contribute meaningfully to the tech landscape.”

The Engineering Lead, Frontend at Kora, David Ojimba, declared that The Curve was designed to engage young individuals interested in STEM, providing training and aiming to integrate them into the community.

Ojimba, who was one of the mentors at the incubation programme, explained that the initiative, akin to what Andela accomplished, specifically focused on providing support to those lacking resources, particularly for the less privileged.

“We met some of them in places like Ajegunle in Lagos, for example. This marks the third cohort, each lasting approximately 6 months. The focus areas include web development, front-end engineering, and UX design,” enunciated Ojimba.

The Engineering Lead, Backend at Kora, Oluwatimilehin Adesoji, mentioned that the experience with the trainees had been great and insightful.

He noted that being part of the programme had also provided a valuable learning opportunity for him.

According to Adesoji, they guided the trainees from level zero to a point where they could further develop themselves.
