It was a night of knockouts at the Freedom Park in Lagos State February 3 as Toyin Adejumola stopped Kudirat Fatai in the ‘PUGILISTS@WORK’ headliner to claim the vacant West African Boxing Union female middleweight title, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
In the event sanctioned by the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control, Adejumola knocked Fatai out in the fifth round of their eight-round fight to wrap up a night that had seen five knockouts prior to the main event.
National super-welterweight champion, Hassan Tiamiyu, proved his worth as a title holder with a quick first round knockout of Wasiu Lawal in their super-welterweight bout.
Monyasahu Muritador also secured a TKO win over Abdullahi Muhammad in the second round of their eight-round cruiserweight clash while Rilwan Lawal out-boxed Ojo Arabambi in their featherweight fight by unanimous decision after eight rounds.
In another cruiserweight clash, Kabiru Towolawi secured a round three TKO win over 40-year-old Gbenga Oluokun while Emmanuel Abimbola knocked out Jamiu Akande in the second round of their bout.
The last knockout was in a light-heavyweight clash between Salim Rashid and Akeem Adekunle as the former won the bout in the third round with a technical knockout while Oghuvwu Believe defeated Adebayo Olanrewaju by unanimous decision after four rounds of their light-heavyweight fight.
Oba Adeyemi Adelekan and Oba Olabode Thomas-Fagbayi were present at the fight night and joined NBBofC general secretary, Remi Aboderin, in presenting the WABU middleweight title to Adejumola.
