The Labour Party (LP) Secretariat located in the Ikeja GRA area of Lagos was reportedly attacked by armed thugs on Monday morning, in a brazen act of violence that left the premises ransacked and party officials in shock.
Eyewitnesses and staff members at the secretariat confirmed to Daily Trust that the attackers, estimated to be over 300 in number, stormed the building at approximately 10 a.m.
The hoodlums forcefully gained entry into the secretariat, overpowering security and damaging offices within the premises.
The attackers allegedly made away with sensitive party documents, electronics, and an undisclosed sum of money believed to run into millions of naira.
Although police officers were said to have arrived shortly after the assailants dispersed, no arrests were made at the scene. Authorities have since confirmed the incident and assured the public that a full-scale investigation is underway.
In a statement, the Lagos State Police Command condemned the attack and emphasized that efforts are ongoing to track down the individuals responsible.
In other news, the Director General of the Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration, Labour Party, Marcel Ngogbehe, has called on Julius Abure to take strong action against camps claiming party leadership.
Naija News reports that Ngogbehe said only the Abure-led National Working Committee (NWC) is the recognized leadership of Labour Party.
Speaking with News Central on Monday, the LP Chieftain condemned the faction clamoring for a new Nigeria without obeying the party’s laws.
