Maiden Lagos keep fit programme holds

The Lagos State Government says it will extend the newly birthed monthly aerobics programme, Keep Fit Lagos, to the 20 local government areas in the state by next year, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The first edition of the programme was held on Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, and attracted participants from different sectors of Lagos public service as well as other individuals.

It was organised by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, in collaboration with the Lagos State Sports Commission.

The programme featured aerobics, flexibility, strengthening and stability exercises as well as health talks.

Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, noted that the exercise was in tandem with the execution of the THEMES agenda of the government.

“This has been put together to train the body, mind and soul. The idea is to do it collectively and then we can talk about executing our THEMES agenda. So we will continue to do this so that we can foster unity and collaboration,” Ogunlemde said.

Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafar, stated at the event, “I’m impressed with what we have done and you know there is always room for improvement.

“So, our target is that by the next edition in the second week of January 2024, it will cut across all the local government areas of Lagos State simultaneously.

“A healthy nation is a wealthy nation, so, we need to keep fit in Lagos and put our resources to better use as such.”

Some participants, who spoke with our correspondent, harped on the importance of having the exercise regularly.

“This is a good initiative and I believe it will go a long way in helping us to keep track of our health. So, we have to continue,” a participant, Azeez Iman, said.
