Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim has confirmed that star forward, Marcus Rashford is anticipated to miss the upcoming clash against Liverpool at Anfield due to an illness.
During a press conference held on Friday, Amorim provided insights into Marcus Rashford’s condition, stating, “At the moment he is ill and he is not training.” He added that the situation is being closely monitored, saying, “I think he is going to be out this week. We will see.”
This news comes as United prepare to face league leaders Liverpool, a team they have struggled against in recent years.
The statistics are telling; since 2016, Manchester United have recorded only one victory at Anfield and has managed to score just one goal in their last nine visits.
The upcoming match poses a daunting challenge for Amorim, whose side is grappling with inconsistencies and a troubling run of form, having suffered six defeats out of their last eight matches.
When asked about his concerns regarding the upcoming fixture, Amorim remained focused on his team’s performance rather than the potential for defeat.
He stated, “No, I am just focused on the performance. I am not focused on losing or what could happen.”
He emphasized the importance of preparation, acknowledging their goal to secure a victory against a formidable opponent like Liverpool. “We had some losses, we prepared for this game to win, and we know what we are going to face,” he explained.
However, Amorim did not shy away from addressing the critical issues that have plagued his team, particularly their tendency to start games poorly. He cited the recent match against Newcastle, in which United found themselves two goals down within the first 20 minutes, as a prime example of the problems they need to rectify.
“I think that is clear,” Amorim remarked. “That is a massive problem for us, and it was not just this game. When I arrived, we were scoring one goal in the first minutes, but then it changed.”
