[Match preview] Chelsea vs Real Betis: Who will lift UEFA Conference League trophy?

Chelsea will look to make history on Wednesday night when they take on Spanish side Real Betis in the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League at Stadion Wroclaw in Poland.

The Blues, under the guidance of Enzo Maresca, are aiming to become the first club to win all five major UEFA competitions.

Having already lifted the Champions League, Europa League, Cup Winners’ Cup, and UEFA Super Cup in their history, the Conference League is the only trophy missing from their European collection.

Chelsea enter the final as clear favourites after a strong finish to their Premier League campaign, which saw them seal a place in next season’s Champions League with a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest.

The West London side have also impressed in Europe, winning 11 of their 12 matches in the competition proper and boasting a goal tally of 38–9.

Their opponents, Real Betis, are making their debut appearance in a European final. Managed by former Manchester City and West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini, Betis finished sixth in La Liga and reached the final after an extra-time victory over Fiorentina.

The Andalusian side will be hoping to cap off their campaign with a historic upset.

Betis have already faced Polish opposition in this season’s competition, losing 1-0 to Legia Warsaw and drawing 1-1 with Jagiellonia Bialystok. They’ll need a dramatic improvement to overcome a confident Chelsea side.

In terms of team news, Chelsea will be boosted by the return of forward Christopher Nkunku, who has resumed training after missing the last six matches due to injury. Nicolas Jackson is also available, as his domestic suspension does not apply to European fixtures.

However, Marcus Bettinelli, Wesley Fofana, Aaron Anselmino, and Romeo Lavia are not registered for the competition and will not be involved, though they have travelled with the squad to show support.

Wednesday’s final will be held at the 40,000-capacity Stadion Wroclaw, with kick-off set for 8 pm BST (9 pm local time). The match will be broadcast live on various authorised platforms.

Viewers can also stream the match via authorised apps and websites.

Should the match end in a draw after 90 minutes, extra-time and, if necessary, penalties will determine the winner.

VAR will be in operation, and all non-suspension yellow cards were wiped after the quarter-finals.

The winners of this competition qualify for the league stage of the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League – though Chelsea have already claimed a Champions League ticket, and Betis are guaranteed Europa League football through their league finish.
