Thursday’s Africa Cup of Nations match between Egypt and Ghana is a must-win for both sides after disappointing starts to their campaigns.
The heavyweight duo meet at Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, with kickoff at 9pm Nigerian time.
Egypt were held 1-1 by AFCON debutants Mozambique, while Ghana suffered a shocking 2-1 loss to Cape Verde in their opening Group B games.
The unconvincing performances have left the two nations needing victory to avoid elimination in the group stage.
Cape Verde currently tops the group after their giant-killing act.
But the North African and West African powerhouses will be determined to show their quality when they clash.
Egypt are the record seven-time AFCON winner but have struggled to convince in recent editions, while Ghana have won the trophy four times.
This will be the fifth meeting between the nations at the AFCON. Their head-to-head record stands at 1 win each and 1 draw from the 3 previous group stage matches. Egypt also beat Ghana 1-0 in the 2010 final.
