Minimum Wage Implementation: Sokoto NLC Commends Gov Aliyu

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Sokoto State Chapter, has commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for implementing the N70,000 minimum wage for all civil servants in January 2025.

Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu Jungle, the state NLC chairman expressed his happiness over the development. He urged civil servants to cooperate and reciprocate the government’s gesture by dedicating themselves to their duties.

“We are happy that Sokoto is among the first states to commence the implementation of the 70,000 new minimum wage. For me and many others, that is something we should be grateful for because, as we speak, almost 28 states of the federation are still using the old salary structure.”

Comrade Jungle, a member of the ongoing workforce bio-data workers capturing committee set up by the state government, said they would strive to sanitise the workforce by fishing out ghost workers as much as possible.

He said, “The verification exercise was not targeted at witch-hunting anyone. The state government is committed to ensuring credible verification without interference from government officials.

“In our verification process today, we have identified six ghost workers, do away with them, and we will continue to try our best.”
