The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced that the African Aviation and Aerospace University has fully taken off and is now one of the leading institutions of its kind in Africa.
Speaking on the university’s progress and its importance in aviation and aerospace education, Keyamo highlighted this during the ministerial press briefing in Abuja.
He said, “When we came, we also met the African Aviation and Aerospace University at the course of take-off. No admission yet. No take-off. But let me happily report to you that the university has fully taken off, and it’s one of the best in Africa.
“One of the first of such in Africa, where people can even come from outside the country to take courses, a full-blown university on aviation and aerospace, and we are offering so many courses now.”
He further encouraged prospective students to apply, highlighting the university’s growing popularity.
He continued, “And we encourage… You know, a number of… We encourage applicants to apply. In fact, we have two more applications now that we cannot contend with. And the permanent site has taken off.
“Actually, we took off with part of the building of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau. But the department site is almost complete now. So, it’s a full-blown university.”
Keyamo also announced that Nigeria’s Abuja and Port Harcourt airports recently received international recognition for their excellence in emergency response and safety management.
He said, “The Airport Council International, they call them the ACI; they hold their normal annual conference. And, of course, they look at airports across the world and see improvements in airports across the world. And we are happy to report that when we awarded our two airports, we awarded outstanding dedication to emergency management and rescues. And that is the Abuja and the Port Harcourt airports won outright the ACI award for Airport International Council for our dedication to safety and emergency management.
“We are ready for emergencies in those two airports, and they look at that directly. The fire service, the ground staff, and all that. How ready are you to respond to emergencies? And we were rated number one in Africa in terms of our emergency management.”
