Minister seeks improved education sector

Education Minister, Prof Tahir Mamman, on Monday, said the country still has a lot to do as regards the quality of teachers, infrastructural development and access to education by vulnerable persons.

The minister, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Tanko Sununu, also applauded President Bola Tinubu over the double-digit 2024 budget proposal for the Education sector, describing the development as, “a significant improvement over the last couple of years, adding that it underscores the premium Mr President attaches to the education sector.”

The ministers stated this on Tuesday at the start of a two-day Retreat for education stakeholders in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State, according to a statement released by the spokesperson of the Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Goong.

The statement further said Mamman noted that with the Presidency and the National Assembly being on the same page in their resolve to confront the challenges facing the country, this administration is unstoppable.

The statement read, “Acknowledging the efforts of previous administrations in the development of the education sector, Prof. Tahir Mamman noted that a lot still has to be done in areas of infrastructural development, teacher quality, security of our institutions as well as access to quality education especially for the vulnerable groups.

“Prof Tahir Mamman said, that by giving top priority to the education sector in the 2024 budget, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working. Prof Mamman charged, in particular, Heads of Parastatals and Agencies to work assiduously and collectively to enhance the quality of education delivery at all levels for the benefit of the country.”

The statement also quoted Mamman as using the occasion to appeal to all State Governors to work in partnership with the Federal government to achieve a vibrant, functional and self-sustaining education sector for the country.
