Minister’s Suprise Visit Uncovers 8-month Power Outage At King’s College In Lagos

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, on Thursday, paid an unexpected visit to King’s College in Lagos, uncovering an untidy environment and a prolonged power outage.

The Vice Principal, Shittu Y. S., informed the minister who arrived at the school at exactly 7:30am that the school had been without electricity for the past eight months.

“The light has been away for the past eight months. The generator worked until it collapsed before the end of the term in December,” Shittu said.

Shittu mentioned that the school benefited from the independent power project initiated by former Lagos State governor, Raji Fashola, which had been neglected by the federal government for a long time.

He added that the school made temporary arrangements, including purchasing generators for classrooms and the dining hall, as well as installing an inverter in the hostel.

He, however, noted that the annex part for Junior Secondary School students in Victoria Island had regular power supply.
