Super Falcons forward Gift Monday has joined National Women’s Soccer League side Washington Spirits from Spanish women’s topflight side Tenerife on a three-year deal, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Washington Spirits announced the signing of the Nigerian on Tuesday after triggering her release clause which is reported by Spanish news outlet MARCA, to be around €200,000.

“The Washington Spirit has signed Nigerian forward Gift Monday to a three-year deal with a 2028 team option in a transfer from Spain’s UD Tenerife, the clubs announced today. The move involved a transfer fee paid to UD Tenerife by the Spirit,” the NWSL side announced.

“Gift has unique qualities as a forward and will add a new layer to our attacking third,” said head coach Jonathan Giráldez.

“We’re thrilled to welcome her to the team in the near future.”

Monday joined the Spirits after spending two half years in Spain. She recently renewed her contract with the club after revelling in the 2024/25 season which has seen her score 10 league goals plus three assists in 19 matches.

Before her time with Tenerife in Spain, Monday played for Nigeria’s FC Robo and COD United Amazons.

She won the NWFL’s highest goal scorer award in 2012 before making the switch to Spain.

“I am excited to join the Washington Spirit family as I have long wanted to play for the club,” said Monday.
