Music aids learners’ mental development

The Music, Arts, Dance and Empowerment Project has said music helps in the mental, physical, and emotional development of learners.

Speaking at the first edition of the Next Hero Concert organised by MADE for students in public secondary schools, Manager, MADE Project, Ayomide Olofinjana, revealed that the project started in May with just 20 children.

She said, “Some people asked us, why music, dance, and not Science? Music is a universal language and has a way of connecting them with their world. Secondly, Music, Art, and Dance will help the children express themselves. Thirdly, Music, Art, and Dance help us to achieve the MADE goal, which is to raise teenagers in schools. Music helps in the mental, physical, and emotional development of these students.”

The founder, MADE Project, Dr Dotun Arifalo, said, “It is the passion that we have for the next generation, especially kids in public secondary schools, that inspires the MADE project. With the things and vices going on right now, these children need mentors, someone to give them hope, inspiration, and motivation.

“So we are using what they like to instill good character and values in them.

“These kids need someone to help them see that they are heroes, believe in themselves, and get a vision for their desired future.”

She described their performance as amazing and mind-blowing.

Comedian and actress, Helen Paul, who was a guest at the concert added, “The project will help public school children know they are also important in society. The focus is on them because they are the leaders of tomorrow.

“At the moment they might just be following emotions in choosing a career, the MADE project will have a department where mentors will be there to speak with children on self-discovery and others. The use of art and music to communicate to them is a powerful idea.”
