Ten football teams will compete at various venues in Kuje, promising exhilarating matches and celebrating local talent. Football enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating a lively competition as the teams strive for top honours.

The champion of this inaugural edition will receive a cash prize of N1.6 million, while the runner-up and third-placed team will be awarded N600,000 and N400,000, respectively.

During an official press briefing in Kuje yesterday, Muhammed Momoh, Chairman of the Kuje Football League Local Organising Committee (LOC), expressed his enthusiasm and dedication to the league’s success. He underscored the importance of professionalism and fair play, which will serve as the cornerstone of this exciting new sporting venture.

Mr Momoh stated that with community support, the inaugural Kuje Football League is well-positioned to become a landmark event within the local football landscape.

“Football in Kuje is long overdue. Since I arrived here, I have often wondered why there isn’t a football league in Kuje. Football is one of the best ways to engage our youth and foster vibrant activities within the community,” he remarked.

He explained that the concept for the league was born from careful planning and a recognition of the positive impact it could have on Kuje.

Mr Momoh also acknowledged the support from the FCT government, particularly regarding infrastructure enhancements, such as improved roads, which have significantly boosted morale and created a conducive environment for sporting activities.

“Once we introduce this league, it will enhance the existing efforts of the FCT government. That’s why we decided the time is now. We reached out to sponsors, and thankfully, Pepsi has come on board to support our vision,” he added.

The league will feature ten teams and over 180 matches, running for a duration of five months, primarily on weekends. However, in the event of adverse weather conditions, such as rain, matches may be rescheduled to midweek, specifically on Wednesdays or Thursdays.

“The league promises not only entertainment but also significant rewards. The champion of the inaugural edition will receive a cash prize of N1.6 million, while the runner-up and third-placed team will earn N600,000 and N400,000, respectively.

“Pepsi, as the main sponsor, will also provide jerseys for all participating teams, ensuring consistency and quality across the tournament. Additionally, individual brilliance will be recognised with a Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for every match.”

Participating teams include: Holy Ghost FC, Royal Eni FC, Crown Tee FC, Homeboys FC, Cargo FC, Rondo FC, Amazing Grace FC, among others
