NDSF: Team Ondo battles Delta in female football final

Ondo State’s female football team on Sunday defeated Cross River State 2-1 to book a place in the final against Delta at the ongoing Niger Delta Sports Festival in Akwa Ibom State.

Team Ondo had earlier walked over the Edo team and later thrashed Bayelsa 3-1 before qualifying for the final.

The result of the thrilling encounter at the training pitch of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo ensured that the state was already guaranteed a medal in female football.

Assistant coach of the Ondo State team, Chinaza Ihelewere, said the girls were playing their first competitive match at the event after being scouted from across the 18 local government areas of the state.

“These girls were determined to move forward, and that is what worked for us. We are assuring the state that we are here gunning for gold after reaching this stage,” she said.
