NEPC urges non-oil exporters to adopt digital trading

The Nigerian Export Promotion Council has urged non-oil exporters to harness the opportunities in digital marketing to boost their export business.

NEPC Ekiti State Coordinator, Mrs Iyalode Abe, said this in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, during a one-day capacity building/export skills acquisition programme for exporters.

The theme of the training was ‘Digital marketing and application of artificial intelligence/decision support system on export logistics’.

“NEPC, under the leadership of the Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Nonye Ayeni, will continue to promote the development of non-oil export to safeguard the nation’s economy, she declared.

Nigeria has been relying on oil exports for over 90 per cent of its foreign exchange earnings.

The state coordinator stated that e-marketing and digital trading have the capacity to improve the Nigerian economy and as well boost employment generation.

She said the workshop was targeted at sensitising the exporters and SMEs on how to harness the benefits of e-commerce and digital trade in the export market to have a clear competitive edge in the global market.

She charged the participants to seize the opportunity to generate new business ideas as it is a road map to success in their export endeavours.

Abe said that NEPC had organised a series of workshops for different groups and organisations and as well undertaken numerous intervention programmes for farmers and SMEs as part of efforts to catalyse non-oil export in Ekiti State.

Ekiti State Commissioner for Trade and Industries, Mrs Tayo Adeola, disclosed the state government cherished exporters, saying, “We are putting all in place to ensure a conducive environment for export business.”

Adeola, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industries, Mr. Oladele Ogunsemoyin, urged the exporters and SMEs to embrace digital marketing, which he said: “cut costs, enlarges customers’ base, increases access to sales and thus increases revenue.”
