New Falcons invitee Nkor ready to soar

Former Sunshine Queens striker Blessing Nkor is looking forward to reaching the heights with the Super Falcons after she was handed her maiden call-up into the team ahead of Saturday’s international friendly against France, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigeria Football Federation released a 20-player list for the match on Sunday with the former Falconets striker making the cut.

In the wake of the invitation, Nkor, who is expected to join her teammates in Angers, France took to social media to express her delight.

“God did it,” the Pyramids player wrote via X on Monday.

“I got listed to the most successful national football team in Africa, the Super Falcons of Nigeria. I’m grateful for this privilege and honour. It’s time to soar higher.

“Special thanks to all who have been part of my journey, your support means the world to me.”

Nkor has represented Nigeria at the youth level, having been part of the women’s U-20 team between 2022 and 2023.

She featured for Sunshine Queens from 2021 to 2022 and moved to Tanzanian club Yanga Princesses in September 2022 before joining Turkish side Gaziantep AsyaSpor for the 2023/24 season.

The 21-year-old will link up with other strikers like Gift Monday, Ifeoma Onumonu, Rinsola Babajide and Bayelsa Queen’s Mercy Okonkwo ahead of the friendly.
