Nigeria’s Kazeem Olaigbe’s Goal Nominated For Europa Conference League Goal Of The Week Award

Nigerian forward Kazeem Olaigbe is making waves in the football world as he finds himself in contention for the prestigious UEFA Europa Conference League Goal of the Week award.

This recognition comes after an impressive performance where Kazeem Olaigbe scored two goals and provided one assist in Cercle Brugge’s decisive 3-1 victory over Olimpija Ljubljana on Thursday night.

Among his standout contributions, Olaigbe’s second goal stood out remarkably. The 21-year-old Nigerian striker executed a magnificent strike from outside the penalty area after deftly maneuvering past two defenders, leaving fans and commentators in awe.

This impressive feat adds to his tally, as he has already netted four goals in the tournament this season, underscoring his influence and importance to his team. In addition to Olaigbe, Djurgarden defender Keita Kosugi has also received a nomination for the coveted award.

Meanwhile, Southampton manager Russell Martin has offered an important update regarding the squad ahead of their upcoming match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Martin confirmed that striker Paul Onuachu is back in contention for selection after having been sidelined due to an injury sustained during a Premier League game against Liverpool last month. This is particularly good news for the South Coast club as they prepare to host Spurs at St Mary’s Stadium this Sunday.

During a press conference on Friday, Martin expressed his enthusiasm regarding Onuachu’s return, stating, “Jan Bednarek’s back, Paul Onuachu’s back, which is really good, and apart from that we’re all good.”

This news is crucial considering Onuachu has yet to score in his 16 league appearances since joining the Saints. Despite the lack of goals, Martin has praised the Nigerian forward’s unique contributions to the team.

“Paul gives us a real alternative option that’s different from anyone in the squad and most people in the league, actually,” the coach said.

The manager reflected on the unfortunate timing of Onuachu’s injury, noting that he was in excellent form before being sidelined.

“He was really unfortunate at the timing of his injury as he was in such a good place and was going to really help us, I think, and now he’s going to help us moving forward”, the coach said.
