NITDA, Nibox, others get recognition



The 7th .ng Awards, organised by the Nigeria Internet Registration Association celebrated the achievements of outstanding individuals and organisations in Nigeria’s digital landscape.

The event, held recently at the Muson Center in Lagos, honored those who have contributed to the growth and development of the .ng domain and digital innovation in the country.

This year’s theme, “The Innovators of 2024,” highlighted excellence in digital innovation across various sectors, including banking, agritech, state-level initiatives, and media.

The awards not only recognise achievements but also promote the .ng brand, significantly contributing to Nigeria’s internet space.


Among the prominent awardees were Nibox Payment, which received the company of the year award, the biggest honor of the night.

Other award recipients included GO54, named Best ccTLD Registrar for its exceptional service and contribution to the .ng domain, and the National Information Technology Development Agency, honored as the Most Supportive Partner for its unwavering support of Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.

“Other notable winners included FairMoney, named .ng Fintech Company of the Year; Lagos State for Digital Innovation in State Government; and the National Identity Management Commission for Digital Innovation in Federal Government. Jumia Nigeria also took home the award for Best E-Commerce Website/Portal,” part of the statement read.

President of AfTLD, Eyitayo Iyortim, recognised for her contributions to the internet space, while the Executive Director of Paradigm Initiative, Gbenga Sesan, received an award for his tireless advocacy in child protection online.

The two-day event kicked off with the Tech Convergence 1.0 conference, featuring insightful discussions on emerging technologies and the role of the .ng domain in Nigeria’s digital growth.

Industry leaders, policymakers, and tech enthusiasts gathered to explore opportunities and challenges in the digital space.

A highlight of the conference was a fireside chat with Lagos State’s Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, Olatunbosun Alake.

He discussed *“Shaping Tomorrow: The Role of State-Level Collaboration in Building a Tech-Driven Future,” emphasised the importance of public-private partnerships in driving digital growth.

Alake specifically highlighted how Lagos State leverages technology for the benefit of its citizens, including funding innovative ideas from youth in the state.
