Onyedika, Onyemachi clinch club laurels

Bruno Onyemaechi and Raphael Onyedika were among the standout Nigerian performers in Europe over the weekend, as both players added major domestic trophies to their growing collections with Olympiacos and Club Brugge respectively, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Onyedika featured in midfield as Club Brugge edged arch-rivals Anderlecht 2–1 in the Belgian Cup final at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. The 24-year-old was instrumental in Brugge’s dominance during the opening stages, setting the tempo with his passing and movement.

His influence was evident in the build-up to both goals, as Brugge struck twice before half-time through Romeo Vermant, who converted from close range after deliveries by Hugo Siquet and Christos Tzolis. Onyedika’s assured presence in midfield helped stifle Anderlecht’s transitions and provided a solid platform for the attack.

He was substituted in the 74th minute to a standing ovation, with Brugge fans acknowledging his role in what became the club’s 12th Belgian Cup triumph and their first since 2015.

Meanwhile in Greece, Onyemaechi featured prominently as Olympiacos sealed the Greek Super League title with a final-day victory over PAOK at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.

Although the Piraeus club had already wrapped up their 48th league crown before the match, the fixture served as a celebratory finale. The 26-year-old Nigerian defender, who joined from Portuguese side Boavista in January, impressed once again with a solid display at left-back, helping shut down PAOK’s right-sided attacks before being substituted in the 63rd minute.

Onyemaechi’s swift adaptation to Greek football has been a revelation, and he now caps off a remarkable half-season with his first league title in Europe while also eyeing a domestic double, with the Greek Cup final against OFI scheduled for May 17.

Elsewhere in France, Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was the hero as Paris FC ended their 19-year trophy drought by defeating Paris Saint-Germain 5–4 on penalties to win the 2025 Coupe de France Féminine. The final had ended goalless after 90 minutes in Calais, with Nnadozie saving two crucial spot-kicks in the shootout to seal victory.

It was one of the biggest moment in Nnadozie’s club career as it marked her first silverware in Europe while cementing her reputation as one of the most reliable penalty-stoppers in the women’s game.

The trio’s exploits over the weekend added to Nigeria’s growing list of international honours, with others still to come, particularly, Victor Osimhen, who is in contention for the Turkish Super Lig and Turkish Cup titles.
