OPay shines as only fintech honoured at Vanguard Awards



OPay, Nigeria’s leading digital financial services provider, has been crowned the Most Innovative Fintech in Nigeria by Vanguard Newspapers.

In a statement made available to our correspondent on Thursday, Opay emerged as the only fintech to receive an award at the event, further solidifying the company’s position at the forefront of financial technology innovation in the country.

According to the organisers, the award recognises Opay’s contributions to advancing financial inclusion, strengthening digital payment security, and delivering innovative solutions to millions of Nigerians.

The statement noted that Opay’s recent innovations include the Large Transaction Shield, designed to enhance security for high-value transactions, and NightGuard, which restricts account access during vulnerable nighttime hours. Other standout features include real-time network status notifications before transfers, double verification to prevent transfer errors, facial verification for transactions, fast transfers, and in-app customer service support.

Receiving the award on behalf of the company, Opay’s Chief Commercial Officer, Elizabeth Wang, expressed gratitude for the recognition while reaffirming the company’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s digital payment ecosystem.

“We are deeply honoured to be recognised as the fintech company of the year,” Wang said. “This award reaffirms our vision of creating a secure, inclusive, and innovative financial ecosystem for every Nigerian. We dedicate this achievement to our loyal customers who inspire us every day to do better.”

The PUNCH reported that Nigeria’s leading financial institution, Opay, has won the prestigious Fintech Company of the Year 2024 award at the Leadership Newspapers Awards.
