Osimhen, Dessers make league TOTWs

Nigerian duo Victor Osimhen and Cyriel Dessers have both been rewarded with inclusions into the Team of the Week accolade, for their outstanding performances for Galatasaray and Glasgow Rangers in both the Turkish Super Lig and in the Scottish Premier Football League, respectively last weekend, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Osimhen led the frontline for the Yellow-Reds and he featured for the entirety of the fixture against Kayserispor, in which he scored Gala’s opening goal on their way to a 3-0 victory over their 11th-placed opposition to emerge champions of the Turkish Super Lig for the 2024/2025 campaign. The Super Eagles hitman’s goal was complemented with further strikes by Baris Alper Yilmaz in the 29th minute and goalkeeper Fernando Muslera one minute before time.

The 26-year-old has now seen his goals tally for the campaign rise to 25 from 29 fixtures, and he has supplied a further five assists as well. His overall displays saw him included in the Super Lig’s best performers for match-day 34.

Elsewhere, Cyriel Dessers wrapped up his SPFL campaign on a high, as he netted in Rangers’ final league game of the season. The 30-year-old opened the scoring as early as the second minute in the 2-2 draw against Hibernian away at Easter Road. The result saw the Ibrox outfit end the campaign in second place behind champions Celtic.

Over the course of the campaign, Dessers made 35 top-flight appearances and scored 18 goals plus a further two assists, and was rewarded with an inclusion in the Team of The Week.

He made the top XI alongside Airdrieonians goalkeeper Cade Melrose, defensive quartet Ryan Alebiosu (St Mirren), Danny Wilson (Livingston), Sam Cleall-Harding (Dundee United) and Stephen Kingsley (Heart of Midlothian).

Experienced Celtic star James Forrest, Lyall Cameron (Dundee) and Lennon Miller (Motherwell) and Adam Laaref (East Fife) complete the midfield line-up, while Dessers is paired with Hibernian frontman Martin Boyle in attack.
