Otu signs bills establishing Cross River varsity, college



Gov. Bassey Otu of Cross River has signed into law two bills establishing a University of Education and Entrepreneurship in Akamkpa and a College of Agriculture in Obubra.

The laws titled, “Cross River University of Education and Entrepreneurship Law 2024 and Cross River College of Agriculture Law 2024,” were signed during the State Executive Council meeting on Thursday.

In his address, Otu assured that the appointment of governing councils and principal officers for both institutions would be prioritised in the coming weeks.

‘’The new University of Education and Entrepreneurship succeeds the former State College of Education, Akamkpa while the College of Agriculture in Obubra transitions from a campus of the University of Cross River, Calabar,” Otu said.


He commended the leadership and members of the State House of Assembly for their expeditious review and passage of the bills.

 The state executive council also approved five executive draft bills for onward transmission to the State Assembly.

The bills include Cross River Roads Fund Law, 2024; Cross River Rural Access Roads Authority Law, 2024; Cross River Lotteries and Gaming Agency Law, 2024.

Others include Cross River Water User Association Law, 2024 as well as the Amendment of the Cross River Counterpart Fund Law, 2024.
