PDP commends Mutfwang for reducing Plateau’s debt profile

The People’s Democratic Party in Plateau State has commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for what it described as a “giant stride” in reducing the state’s domestic debt profile from N134bn to N94bn within two years in office.

In a statement on Monday signed by its Publicity Secretary, Jonathan Amande, the Plateau PDP said the move reflected Governor Mutfwang’s commitment to fiscal discipline and economic recovery after what it called the “wasteful” spending of the previous administration.

“The People’s Democratic Party has expressed commendation to the People’s Governor, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for his relentless efforts in reducing the state’s debt profile from N134bn to N94bn, according to Nigeria’s domestic debt record, in less than two years in office,” the statement read.

“This giant stride is a step in the right direction, which will allow the state to breathe from the wasteful cumulative burden of the last administration without any tangible development to better the lot of the Plateau people.”

The party also hailed the governor’s performance in improving internally generated revenue, describing it as a vital component of the state’s ongoing financial reform efforts.

“The PDP family is proud of the fiscal responsibility drive of Governor Caleb Mutfwang towards improving the state’s financial status, especially with the internal revenue generation performance in the last two years,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the PDP took a swipe at the opposition All Progressives Congress stakeholders in the state for failing to attend key cultural festivals, including the Puuskat, Nzem Berom, and Ilum O’Tarok events.

“PDP observes keenly the show of shame by APC Stakeholders for snubbing Puuskat, Nzem Berom and Ilum O’Tarok cultural festivals. This reflects a broader pattern of neglect towards critical voices within the state for the unity of Plateau people.”

The party, however, applauded Governor Mutfwang for attending and supporting these events, saying his presence underscored his respect for Plateau’s diverse cultures.

“The PDP family commends Governor Caleb Mutfwang for renaissance and gracing some of these cultural festivals as a mark of honour to the various cultural nations. The PDP looks forward to the state festival of art and culture that will bring together all the cultural festivals in unison.”

The party further called on citizens to continue supporting the administration’s ongoing road construction projects, peace initiatives, and development programmes aimed at improving the lives of Plateau residents.

“The PDP calls on the people of Plateau State to intensify prayers for the well-being of the Governor, peace, stability and security of the state,” it added.
