PDP Crisis, Gov’t Performance Reasons For My Defection To APC, Says Cross River Rep

The lawmaker representing Bekwarra, Obudu/Obanliku federal constituency of Cross River State in the National Assembly, Hon. Peter Akpanke has attributed his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to persistent crisis in his former party.

Akpanke who endorsed the reelection of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu for the 2027 general elections also lauded the president for the Lagos – Calabar Coastal Road project of the federal government and Governor Otu for road rehabilitation and other development projects across the state.

 

The ex-PDP rep stated this during the media parley organised by the Cross River APC caucus in the National Assembly to express their support for Tinubu and Otu in Calabar, Cross River State capital.

Akpanke who led a group of federal lawmakers to the International Convention Centre in Calabar, said “Governor Otu has shown exceptional dedication to governance, especially in infrastructure. Road on several parts of the state had been repaired. He has truly proven himself as a democrat.”

 

The lawmaker stressed the importance of supporting programmes and initiatives of the government that can move the state and the nation forward, “I am up and in support of anything that will move the state and the nation forward.”

 

Also speaking at the event, chairman of the caucus, Senator Eteng Williams, said although the 2027 elections are still two years away, their decision for the early endorsements was to enable the President and Governor Otu to concentrate on governance.

 

Williams said the duo have enthroned good governance at the state and federal level which promoted the caucus to support their reelection.

 

“We are here to endorse our governor and our president. Our governor has done well and deserve our accolades”, Eteng stated.
