The struggle for the office of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ‘s national secretary has taken a dramatic turn following the party’s receipt of a stay of execution order.
Naija News reports that the order halts the enforcement of an earlier Appeal Court judgment that removed Samuel Anyanwu from the position.
The PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, emphasizing the party’s commitment to respecting the rule of law.
PDP Constrained By Court Order
Abdullahi revealed that the party had been served an order of interim injunction issued by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Maitama, in a case filed by Imo State PDP Chairman, Austine Nwachukwu.
He stated, “On Wednesday, January 15, we were served with an order of interim injunction issued in a suit instituted by Austine Nwachukwu through his counsel, Clement Mue, in a suit marked: CV/64/2025.”
The order restrains the PDP and its agents from enforcing the Appeal Court ruling that had recognized Ude Okoye as the National Secretary.
Addressing the media, Abdullahi emphasized the party’s adherence to the court’s directive. “We are obliged as a law-abiding party to respect the order of the court.
We will also send a legal representation to defend the party in the suit when the Motion on Notice comes up on January 8 and February 5 for hearing on the originating summons,” he stated.
He further urged party members to exercise restraint and patience, adding, “We appeal to all PDP members to be law-abiding and wait for the court’s final position on this matter.”
Abdullahi acknowledged the tensions stirred by the ongoing legal battle but called for unity within the party. “Regardless of this outcome and the feathers ruffled as a result, let us rededicate ourselves to the sacred duty of constitutionalism and adherence to the rule of law,” he said.
He also warned against actions that could harm the party’s image and operations, saying, “Our responsibility as the major opposition party in the land must not be lost on the altar of mere leadership tussle.”
