Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, has expressed concern regarding his team’s current form, revealing that his players are advocating for new signings amid a challenging season.
The Premier League champions faced another setback on Boxing Day, being held to a frustrating 1-1 draw against Everton at The Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City initially took the lead with an early goal from Bernardo Silva, only for Iliman Ndiaye to equalize shortly after. In a moment of high tension, Erling Haaland had a chance to restore City’s lead with a penalty kick in the second half, but his shot was expertly saved by Everton’s goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford.
This latest result continues a dismal streak for Manchester City, which has now seen them win only one match in their last 13 outings across all competitions.
Guardiola’s frustration was palpable as he addressed the media, stating, “If we can, we have to add players in January. I think even the players themselves are asking, ‘Are we going to add some players? Please!’”
He acknowledged the difficulties associated with the January transfer window, noting, “It’s not easy. We need to enhance the squad, but we must bring in players who can contribute not just in the short term but for the next three, four, or even five years – and achieving that is certainly a challenge.”
Guardiola’s comments reflect the urgency to bolster the team’s capabilities as they navigate this rough patch and aim to reclaim their status at the top of the Premier League.
