Police Arrest Man For Alleged Impersonation, PoS Fraud In Yobe

A 29-year-old man, Joshua Agugu has been apprehended by the operatives of the Yobe State Police Command over his alleged involvement in impersonation and defrauding innocent persons through fraudulent Point Of Sales (PoS) transactions.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement, confirmed the arrest of Agugu, a resident of High Court Gizza Plaza, Keffi local government area of Nasarawa State by the State Intelligence Department (SID).

According to the statement, Agugu was found in possession of a fake Nigerian Navy ID card which he used to swindle unsuspecting victims, particularly PoS vendors and store owners.

He added that, “His modus operandi involved generating fake receipts on his Kuda bank app, making it seem like transactions were successful, even when they were not.”

DSP Abdulkarim explained that to gain the trust of his victims, Agugu would initially make a successful transaction with a token and then use the app to edit the receipt, delaying the alert to the recipient. “This clever tactic allowed him to deceive his victims and get away with their money or goods.”

The Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, CP Garba Ahmed has urged the public to be vigilant and beware of such fraudsters.
