Rema, DJ YK Mule win big at Beatz Awards

It was all glitz and glamour at the eighth edition of the Beatz Awards, with the theme, ‘The Octave’, held at the Muson Centre in Lagos recently, where Rema, DJ YK Mule, and other entertainers won awards in different categories.

A fast-rising comedian, Akuidolo Orevaoghene, aka Forever; and an actress, Alexis Ukpabia, hosted the show, thrilling guests with jokes and anecdotes.

Afrobeats star, Divine Ikubor, aka Rema, won the ‘Best Songwriter’ award; while a female disc jockey, Nanayate Abedoh, aka DJ Nana, of Universal Music, won the ‘Female DJ of the Year’ award.

Saszy Afroshii won the ‘Female Producer of the Year’ award, which came with a N1m cash prize; while Magicsticks emerged winner of the ‘Male Producer of the Year’.

Blaise Beat was named the ‘Afro Highlife Producer of the Year’, while MTV Base won the ‘Entertainment Cable of the Year’; Sliverbird Television won the ‘Entertainment TV Station of the Year’; and Cool FM won the ‘Radio Station of the Year’.

The award for ‘Afro Gospel Producer of the Year’ went to music educator and the Chief Executive Officer of blueflamemedia21, Wole Adesanya, aka Mr Wols.

For the second time in a row, the award for ‘Best Blog of the Year’ went to Bella Naija; while Shuga Band, owned by Akinloye Tofowomo, aka Akin Shuga, won the ‘Best Live Band’ award.

Tosan Wilshare was named the ‘Best On-Air Personality’; Sean Okeke got ‘Best Artiste Manager of the Year’; and Gorilla Boy won ‘Best Music Video Director’.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of the Beatz Awards, Elijah John, said the platform was to recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements of the creative minds behind music production, business and distribution.
