Remo host hapless Pillars in Ikenne

Table toppers Remo Stars will hope to maintain their lead at the summit of the Nigeria Premier Football League table on Saturday, when they host former champions Kano Pillars in a high-profile match-day 23 clash in Ikenne, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Remo Stars currently hold an eight-point gap at the top, followed by 3SC, who also play host to Bendel Insurance on second place.

Yet to drop any points in their last five matches and unbeaten in their last seven, Remo Stars are going into today’s encounter with so much confidence, unlike their opponents who have only won two of their last five matches, compounded by the suspension of their coach Usman Abdallah by the club’s hierarchy.

Remo will also hope to complete the double over the former champions having won the first leg 2-0 in Katsina.

When asked about what the potential outcome of the game could be, Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede didn’t mince words when he said, “definitely maximum three points” after their 2-1 over Sunshine Stars last week.

Interim coach of Kano Pillars, Ahmed Garba, will face the daunting task of avoiding that in his first game in charge.

A win for Remo Stars will take them to 48 points but how many points gap they will hold depends on the result of the other game between 3SC and Bendel Insurance.

No thanks to their recent dip in form, Pillars have dropped to the 12th position in the league with just 29 points after 21 matches.
