Robert Lewandowski Joins Spacial ‘Company’ In UEFA Champions League

Polish striker, Robert Lewandowski, celebrated his 100th UEFA Champions League goal as Barcelona triumphed 3-0 over Brest on Tuesday, November 26.

Robert Lewandowski scored from the penalty spot early in the match and later added a second goal after Dani Olmo’s strike.

Lewandowski is now the third player to score over 100 goals in the Champions League, behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I’m very content, very happy,” the former Bayern Munich striker told Movistar. “Sometimes, I didn’t believe I would reach this impressive figure in the Champions League.

“Now I’m in good company with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Note that Messi scored 129 Champions League goals in 163 games for Barcelona and Paris St-Germain, while Ronaldo scored 140 Champions League goals in 183 games for Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus.

Lewandowski achieved the milestone of scoring 101 goals in his 125th Champions League game, faster than Ronaldo (137th) but slower than Messi (123rd). However, the Poland striker’s current goal average of 0.8 per game is higher than Ronaldo’s or Messi’s career totals.

Since the 2011–2012 season, Lewandowski has participated in every Champions League season. His 97 goals in the competition, including 17 penalties, have all come inside the box. Only Messi (18) and Ronaldo (19) have scored more goals from the penalty spot.
