Rudi Garcia Named Belgium Head Coach

French coach, Rudi Garcia has been named the new head coach of the Belgian national football team, taking over from Italian Domenico Tedesco, who parted ways with the team last week after a challenging tenure of nearly two years.

Rudi Garcia, 60, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously managed notable clubs such as Lille, Marseille, Lyon, and Roma. His most recent position was with Serie A club Napoli, where he was at the helm for 16 games in 2023. Despite a solid performance in which he secured victories, the club decided to move in a different direction.

Garcia’s introduction to the media is scheduled for Friday, marking a pivotal moment as he steps into the national coaching arena for the first time. The Belgian football federation is hopeful that his extensive club experience will translate into success at the international level.

Garcia’s most notable achievement came during his time at Lille, where he guided the team to Ligue 1 glory and earned the title of manager of the year in 2011.

Now, he has the opportunity to steer Belgium, currently ranked eighth in the FIFA world rankings, as they prepare for the Nations League play-offs against Ukraine in March. This new chapter presents an exciting challenge for Garcia as he aims to bring renewed success to Belgian football.
