Samuel eyes girls title at SAPETRO Futures

Gloria Samuel who was upended by her 13-year-old teammate Goodnews Aina in the finals of the girls U-16 event of the NNPC-SNEPCo Junior Championship last month in Warri has vowed to regain her title at the SAPETRO Futures event which kicks off in Lagos Tuesday (today).

Samuel who had won the three junior championships preceding the Warri event was inconsolable as her teammate, challenged by her mum to do better than her runner-up showings played beyond expectation to win her first junior title.

The Boys U-14s and U-16 titles will also be highly contested, as Goodluck Tersoo from Benue who upset Lagos-based Sanni Yahaha will have to prove that his last win was not a fluke.

In the Boys 16s, Gbolahan Olawale from Ondo State, winner of the Youth Games tennis event will have to redeem himself having lost to Abuja-based Dubem Amasiani in the finals of the SNEPCo Championship.

The weeklong tournament is expected to end with a grand finale at the Ikoyi Club on Saturday, November 30.
