Senegal dealt Sarr injury blow

Senegal midfielder Pape Matar Sarr was forced off the pitch after just 30 minutes of Tottenham Hotspurs Premier League home clash against Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve.

The Senegal international had opened the scoring but was unable to continue for even 20 minutes after the goal.

Sarr is due to be at the African Cup of Nations next month but that has now been put in doubt. The latest issue for Spurs comes having welcomed Rodrigo Bentancur back into the side quicker than many had imagined.

The 21-year-old scored just his second goal of the season after an opening spell from Spurs that saw them create numerous chances, dribbling with the ball to create an angle outside of the Bournemouth area before arrowing in a low strike. He was replaced by Oliver Skipp shortly after though and was seen in tears as he left the field.

Tottenham captain Son Heung-Min and midfield teammate Bentancur consoled Sarr as he left the field. He is due to kick off his country’s AFCON defence in just over two weeks as Aliou Cisse’s side play the Gambia.
