Sokoto Pensioners Sends SOS To Gov Aliyu

The leadership of Sokoto State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has appealed to Governor Ahmad Aliyu to extend the new minimum wage to its large membership.

In his appeal, secretary of the union in the state, Nasiru Sarkin Larabawa, highlighted the hardships pensioners face in meeting their families’ basic needs, including hospital bills, amid the ongoing economic challenges and rising food prices.

Acknowledging the kind and generous assistance of the governor’s administration to all categories of civil servants, including pensioners, since he assumed leadership of the state, Larabawa stressed that pensioners, who had served the state for up to 35 years, were in dire need of this support.

“We are hopeful and confident that the recent salary increases for workers would also benefit pensioners, who are living from hand to mouth.

“The current payment method for gratuities to retired civil servants in the state is highly commendable. If this trend continues, all payments will be completed within the shortest possible time,” he noted.
