Spurs bench captain Son in Europa League final against Man Utd

Son Heung-min was surprisingly omitted from the starting line-up for Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League final against Manchester United in Bilbao on Wednesday.

Despite recently returning from injury and being widely expected to start, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has opted to keep his captain on the bench.

Instead, Postecoglou has named a front three consisting of Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke, and Richarlison as he seeks to end Tottenham’s 17-year wait for a major trophy.

As anticipated, Lucas Bergvall is absent from the squad, alongside fellow midfielders James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has included Mason Mount and Amad Diallo in his attacking line-up alongside Rasmus Hojlund, with Alejandro Garnacho left out of the starting eleven.

Mount, who has played a limited role this season, impressed by scoring twice in the semi-final second leg against Athletic Bilbao at Old Trafford.
Leny Yoro returns to the United defence after missing last week’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea.

United’s midfield is marshalled by captain Bruno Fernandes, who is the joint top scorer in this season’s Europa League.

Starting Line-ups for the Europa League Final (Kick-off 19:00 GMT):
