SROL hosts gold mining stakeholders

Segilola Resources Operating Limited, a subsidiary of Thor Explorations Ltd, has hosted stakeholders in the gold value chain, as part of an effort to position itself as a leader in the mining industry.

In a statement, SROL disclosed it carried out a series of initiatives in November, showcasing its commitment to responsible mining and community development.

The company asserted that the Stakeholder Reception it hosted in Abuja on November 19, 2024, bringing key industry players together, was a key part of its efforts to stay in the lead.

Notable figures that attended the reception included the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole; Director General of the Mining Cadastre Office, Obadiah Nkom; and representatives from the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, PwC, and other prominent organisations.

The Stakeholder Reception followed SROL’s participation in the Nigeria Mining Week, where it served as a Diamond Sponsor.

Thor Chief Financial Officer, Chris Omo-Osagie, speaking during the event, celebrated the company’s recognition as one of Nigeria’s Top 10 Non-Oil Exporters and its 2024 awards, including the Responsible Resourcing Award for Labour and the CIPM Oscar for HR Best Practice in Mining.

Omo-Osagie remarked, “These achievements underscore our dedication to innovation, sustainability, and community impact.”

SROL Country Manager Austin Menegbo reiterated the company’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance principles, describing responsible mining as central to its operations.

The industry minister, Oduwole, praised SROL’s contributions to the country’s economic diversification, stating, “Non-oil exports are crucial for this economy. It’s a priority of Mr. President and the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment. We need productivity, competitiveness, and firms like SROL to keep driving growth.”

Further, SROL disclosed it received accolades as a Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council Export Champion, for its perseverance and dedication to national development.

SROL highlighted its community initiatives during an ESG panel discussion at the event, including the Segilola Women’s Initiative Programme, Scholarship Scheme, and Livelihood Restoration Programmes, via a video presentation featuring beneficiaries’ testimonials.

According to the gold operation company, earlier in the month, it completed its second annual community medical outreach, delivering healthcare services to nearly 2,000 individuals in Osun State.

Beneficiaries included residents of Imogbara, Odo-Ijesha, Iperindo, and inmates from local prisons.

Also, SROL stated its services ranged from diagnostics and medication distribution to health awareness campaigns.

The company expressed gratitude to stakeholders, partners, and volunteers, pledging to continue fostering progress in Nigeria’s mining sector.

“SROL’s achievements set a benchmark for responsible mining in Nigeria, and we are committed to building on this momentum,” Menegbo concluded.
