Super Falcons of Nigeria have retained their 36th position in the latest FIFA women’s rankings released on Friday, December 13.
During this ranking period, the Super Falcons participated in three friendly matches, achieving impressive victories against Algeria, winning 2-0 and 4-1. However, they faced a setback with a close 2-1 loss to France’s Les Bleues last month.
Despite this, the Super Falcons continue to lead the African continent in women’s football, with South Africa’s Banyana Banyana closely following in second place. Morocco, Zambia, and Ghana round out the top five nations in Africa.
Meanwhile, Gombe United announced an ambitious strategy with the signing of 31 new players for the upcoming 2024-2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
The new signings include talents such as Abubakar Hassan from Niger Tornadoes, Musa Adamu, and teammates from Doma United. Other notable additions came from Smart City, Osun United, and Wikki Tourists, among various academies across the nation.
The General Manager of the club, Malam Anas Bamusa (Kwami), shared his enthusiasm about this significant recruitment in a statement on Thursday. He emphasized that this initiative aims at securing a promotion ticket back to the top-flight league next season.
“This is a huge project—‘Operation Bring Gombe United Football Club to NPFL,’” Bamusa said.
Gombe United are set to kick off their new season with an exciting match against Sokoto United on Sunday, December 15.
